5. Environment

Learning and Inspiration Flourishes in an Environment of Love, Respect, Humility and Service, where the presence of the Spirit can be felt.
We teach and exemplify love, compassion and respect for each individual and invite the Spirit to class each day.

Scriptures:
Romans 14:19
1 Corinthians 14:26
Doctrine & Covenants 88:112, 119-126
Doctrine & Covenants 136:32

Application:
Devotionals: Devote the day to the Lord through a spiritual devotional. You may include a hymn, prayer, pledge, mission statement, a thought and the sharing of "ah-has" (truths discovered throughout the week).

Service: Serve one another by going to class prepared and being willing to share and edify. You may also plan service projects for those each other or the community.

Activities: Wholesome recreational activities are sometimes planned outside of class time so the youth can practice group unity and build bonds with one another as they further explore the principle of the month.
Examples: Service Projects, Guest Speakers, Game Nights, Movie Nights, and Outdoor Adventures

Teach: Understand principles of an inspiring environment and teach them to one another, such as:
  • Make comments that add to the discussion vs those that bring attention to oneself
  • Listen respectfully - eye contact with the presenter
  • Take notes on each others' comments
  • Explain "inside" jokes so that all may feel themselves on the "inside" of the peer group
  • Never make anyone feel small
  • Stay aware of those who may not feel included in a conversation
  • Dress appropriately for a learning environment
  • Many more are found in the scriptures above
