10. Stewardship and Expectations

Stewardship help us grow through strengthening our characters with the weight of responsibility

Mentors and youth are given leadership and mentoring responsibilities in the group. We are given training to succeed and freedom to learn from our mistakes in our stewardship. Leadership operates on the principles of prayer, council, and trust.

Scriptures:
Matthew 25:23
Alma 17:2-3
Doctrine and Covenants 58:26-27

Applications
Class presidencies:
May be assigned or voted on. Youth are given responsibilities in their different positions, such as president, vice-president, secretary, historian, treasurer, etc.

Youth Mentors:
Youth who have become well acquainted with the Vanguard way of mentoring and are working to find and apply principles to their lives, may be asked to be a youth-mentor.  Youth mentors may lead discussions, write discussion questions, teach skills, help choose books, write inspirements, or plan activities and simulations, for example.

Decision Making and Expectations:
Defining how decisions will be made is important for each group.  It works well if the leader is trusted to make decisions.  It is wise for the leader to rely on prayer and councils before making major changes to the group.  It is also wise to be sure expectations are clear.
Example of group expectations: Vanguard-United welcome page under subtitle "What are those expectations?"

Some groups choose to set up bylaws to help in the decision-making procedures and to make sure rules are clear.
